Fresh Tomato Basil Bruschetta
A classic Italian appetizer featuring toasted baguette slices topped with ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil. Simple ingredients, bold flavor, and perfect for entertaining.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
- 4 cup fresh tomatoes, diced, seeds removed
- 0.25 cup fresh basil, thinly sliced chiffonade
- 3 clove garlic, 1 clove minced, 2 cloves halved for rubbing toast
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, high quality preferred
- 0.5 tsp kosher salt, adjust to taste
- 0.25 tsp freshly ground black pepper, adjust to taste
- 1 tbsp balsamic glaze, drizzle lightly before serving
Directions
In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, sliced basil, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Gently stir to combine and allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes so the flavors meld together.
Preheat oven to 400°F. Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet in a single layer. Toast for 8 to 10 minutes until golden and crisp around the edges.
Remove the toasted bread from the oven while still warm. Lightly rub each slice with the cut side of a halved garlic clove to infuse flavor.
Spoon the tomato mixture evenly over each toasted slice. Serve immediately, optionally drizzled with balsamic glaze.
